The Penn State Alumni Association

What’s been happening:

Retired English teacher from State College Area School District. (PSU: '54 BA Ed, `60 MED). Married Dorothy McLain Jochen (PSU '54 BS Home Ec, `85 MS Ag Ext). We had three sons, 2 daughters, and now have 2 grandsons, 4 grandaughters. I am a life member of National Education Association (NEA), Pa. State Education Association (PSEA), PSU Alumni Association, and United States Chess Federation (USCF). Two main activities are scouting (BSA) and professional disc golf (PDGA). I've had over 40 years of leadership service and received several awards the most important of which is the Silver Beaver for leadership service. The services I most enjoyed were serving on staff for several Woodbadge leadership-training courses and the camping that earned me Vigil honor for Order of the Arrow. Camping and other outdoor sports have been important family events over the years. Disc golf, a new sport in the 70s, has been great entertainment and sport for some of our family. It is poor mans golf and courses are getting more popular world wide. I am a Legend. (that's just the name of the division I play in because of my age, not because I was ever good) but it's still a lot of fun. Both scouting and disc golf have kept me traveling around North America which is great for a retired goof-off. Hopefully, being retired does not mean sitting still. HAIL TO THE LION!
